How to Plan Filament Purchases for a Batch

How many new spools are needed for an order?

Work through the process

  1. Multiply per-part sliced demand by the order quantity.
  2. Include a safety allowance and subtract compatible free stock.
  3. Divide the remaining gap by the purchased net weight and round up.

Formula and worked illustration

Twenty 35 g parts with 10% allowance need 770 g. With 460 g available, the 310 g gap requires one 1000 g spool.

Inputs and limits

A purchase count based on aggregate mass does not solve spool-level scheduling. Check whether each part fits a single spool before starting.

Use the Batch Print Planner to change the assumptions and compare your own inputs. Examples here are illustrative calculations, not results from a physical print test.
